How To Get The Cheapest Car Insurance Possible
Depending on where you are located in the world, it might be a necessity to own a vehicle. Even if it isn’t a necessity, owning a car can come with a lot of excitement and privileges. You get to go and come whenever you please, you can take it on vacation, and it is an asset that you can use to show that you are a reliable individual. Well, if you are going to own a car, you are also going to need car insurance. You can’t have one without the other. It is no secret that car insurance can be expensive, especially for a first time driver. So, how can any individual go about getting the best rates possible?
Don’t Just Opt For The Big Companies
Did you know that there are four major insurance companies that control nearly half of the nation’s auto insurance needs? This would be Allstate, Geico, Progressive, and State Farm. Sure, these companies are well known and have commercials all over the TV. However, that doesn’t mean that they necessarily offer the best bang for your buck. In fact, it is entirely possible that some of the smaller regional providers in your area might offer you better rates. They might also offer better coverage polices as well. Be sure to check them out before just going with one of the big providers.
Quotes Are Necessary
Getting car insurance quotes has become surprisingly easy over the years. In fact, now all you have to do is go online, enter in your information, and you will have an exact quote within a matter of minutes. Use this to your advantage and shop around with a variety of providers before just blindly picking one. Also, keep in mind that the cheapest provider isn’t always the best option. You have to consider the quality of coverage that you are getting as well.
Never Underestimate The Power Of Discounts
You might be surprised to learn that insurance providers do offer discounts to certain customers. Anyone that bundles auto insurance with other policies like homeowners insurance can often times receive a discounted rate. Individuals that have multiple cars insured with the same provider can apply for a discounted rate. Some insurance companies even give individuals with a clean driving record lower rates. Sometimes if your vehicle is equipped with safety devices like backup cameras or auto theft devices you can even receive lower rates. Check and see what each provider is willing to offer.
Consider The Type Of Car You Are Buying
It would be nice if everyone could own a sports car, off road truck with four-wheel drive, or a hybrid vehicle. Well, not only are these types of vehicles going to get bad gas mileage, but also they are really going to raise the cost of your insurance. This is why it might be best to opt for a more practical vehicle. Recent insurance reports show that some of the cheapest vehicles to insure are Honda CR-Vs, Subaru Outback’s, and Jeep Cherokees.
The Internet has brought everything within the fingertips. So, its easy to get into a look at a number of Insurance providers and it’s true that “smaller regional providers in your area might offer you better rates”. It would be better to go with location-based insurance providers. For example, if you are leaving in Carrollton, Texas. Then get into search engines with the Keyword “Auto Insurance Carrollton, TX”.

Hi William,

Thanks so much for the comprehensive post. Insurance costs can really add up, but if readers take your advice they can save lots of money and make smart choices since in the insurance world there’s no such thing as one size fits all.
Thanks for the tips! I especially like that you mentioned to do some searching and not just rely on the big companies, that there may be more local companies for you. I would also suggest to take your time in comparing insurance, just as you shopped around for a car, you should also shop around for auto insurance.

I find it interesting that you suggested looking for rates online in order for car owners to purchase the cheapest car insurance policy to protect their vehicles. In my opinion, one should ask for the help of a local insurance company for advice. Doing this will help a person come to an informed decision on whether getting a policy that includes animal crashes and/or hailstorms will help keep the car intact during the entire year.
Great article! I primarily write insurance in Massachusetts which has some of the highest rates in the country. Regional carriers here are finally losing their foothold to GEICO & Progressive.

Replying to the comment above. I believe companies like Allstate and Geico are good companies. I think most companies “try” to do a good job. This is why you need to have a great agent on your side especially if you have a nasty claim issue. A good agent makes all the difference!

Thanks for telling me that I can buy homeowners insurance and car insurance at a discounted price if I were to bundle them together. As far as I remember, my parents never bought any insurance for our single-family home and I can take advantage of this. I’ll try to consult some insurance agencies and see if they offer discounted rates for their insurance plans.

Thanks for the article. With all of the free online insurance quote companies coming up – insurance brokers need to find a way to become more competitive. Some insurance brokers are making up to 20% of the premium which means individuals can save 20% just by going to the insurance company directly!
